"WE WILL RESIST.
Many are familiar with the powerful revolt of Nat Turner. One of the most significant uprisings in Cuba was led in 1843 by a liberation fighter named Carlota in Matanzas.
Machete in hand she and two other men filled with the spirit and moving to the sound of the drum overtook the sugar mill at Triumvarato. The fight grew larger and larger as other Africans joined the fierce rebellion. Years later, even the mention of the name Carlota sparked fear in plantation owners all over the island. In the 1980s her name was assigned to Cuba's battle operation in South Africa to end apartheid. Bronze and iron sculpture to Carlota and two other rebellion leaders in Trimvirato Matanzas. "
