DID LEE DANIELS BLAME OSCARS SO WHITE ON BLACK LAZINESS?

I THINK HE DID
"As for Lee Daniels, in a profile published on the New York Times’ website on December 28, as his new Fox series “Star” premieres (which has a white female lead – “I wanted to show a white girl that had some swag” as “part of the healing process… I wanted white people to feel cool. I wanted them to not be made fun of. We are one”), the writer/director/producer was “sent into a fit of frustration” says the article, when the #OscarsSoWhite protests was brought up by the interviewer. His apparently fuming response to the controversy was: “Go out and do the work… Oscars so white! So what? Do your work. Let your legacy speak and stop complaining, man. Are we really in this for the awards? If I had thought that way — that the world was against me — I wouldn’t be here now… These whiny people that think we’re owed something are incomprehensible and reprehensible to me. I don’t expect acknowledgment or acceptance from white America. I’m going to be me.”

AND, I THINK HIS STATEMENT IS NOT THE LEAST BIT SURPRISING  because
I think of Uncle Ruckus every time I see Daniels' face.

PRECIOUS Lee Daniels took the book "Push" which was about black and brown women supporting one another to overcome things that had happened to them in their lives and made "Precious," a version beloved of white people because it plays out like "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in its (always white supremacy based) colorism.

Look at the cast of "Precious" In a continuum of smart and good people to victim (Precious) or trash(mother) people, it goes from light to dark. In the book Miss Rain probably was probably closer to looking like Whoopi Goldberg than Paula Patton

Most importantly Precious was not a victim that needed saving in the book "Push" In the book you know what Precious' deal is in the beginning. The abuse is NOT a punchline like it was in the movie.

In the book she was a survivor of sexual abuse battling her way up with the help of a black and brown sisterhood <--- But that don't sell in OscarsSoWhite town. And he knew it.

THE BUTLER

The SUPPORTING cast of The Butler reads like a who's who of biracial people. I've never seen so many biracial MEN in one black movie before -- which was kind of entertaining since this kind of colorism is usually visited upon black women without anybody "noticing."
-----

EMPIRE

It ain't an accident so many on are on the light side.

STAR
I'm hearing Daniels is completely consistent here.

CONCLUSION
So yeah, color me unsurprised Daniels is claiming not to see the purpose of the OscarsSoWhite protest as he panders to the white folks at the Fox Network that love him so well.

Don't believe me? Well, when Daniels breaks up with his boyfriend, maybe the third or fourth shoe will drop for ya. The boyfriend ought to have a lot to say about Daniels' love of all perspectives pale.

In the meantime...

The work black people need to do
is to NOT support black people
who cater to white supremacy
by saying the OscarSoWhite Years 1 and 2
are both the result of black laziness.

Pssst!
before anybody had a clue who he was
So, I'm kinda waiting for his
Marvel character to be a casualty of cinematic war.

We cannot leap to support every single body with dark skin. Yeah, there's room for debate and difference of opinion. But sometimes we have to know when someone is catering to the white gaze.

Sometimes we have to stop someone black from pouring anti-black messages over us because a person raised black can pour anti-black messages in a way so subtle that you won't notice it at first.

And that makes this kind of Uncle Ruckus dangerous.

BLACK MALE FRAGILITY EXPLOSION OVER SERENA WILLIAMS ENGAGEMENT

Feeling Rebloggy
[R]eports that Serena Williams had announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, [came] to the surprise of just about anyone...
The relationship, which had pretty much been a secret to most, quickly went viral for all public consumption. A moment that should have been met with congratulations for the greatest athlete of all-time soon was hit with the shattering sound of angry keystrokes of black men as their egos and fragile masculinity crashed at the intersection of Twitter and Facebook. One headline even read, “Drake and Common’s ex gets Engaged.”

Apparently, the fragility of black masculinity happened to forget the name of the most decorated woman in sports history, as her engagement, for whatever reason, seemed to be a direct attack against their manhood.
If you haven’t guessed it already, Alexis Ohanian isn’t black, and black men made their grievance clear: their ‘Black Queen’ had betrayed them. These are probably the same black men secretly living under the Kanye West motto of “And when you get on, he’ll leave your ass for a white girl.”

Denzel Washington's FENCES Details Racism's Secondary Infection

Don't Miss It!
This movie is disturbing, honest, and absolutely true
If you haven't seen Denzel Washington's version of August Wilson's FENCES at the movies yet plan to see it. Then do me a favor:

Focus on the emotional pain of the characters surrounding Troy, the father, played by Denzel Washington.
Troy's feelings will be front and center. You'll see them and remember them even if you don't want to. But if you focus on the other characters are being affected by Troy you'll see a clear rendition of the secondary infection caused by the original infection of white supremacy.

And in this particular case, the secondary infection was laced with more than a smattering of sexism and patriarchy -- which destroyed a little piece of most people around the main character.

Watching the characters that are just left and right of center character, Troy in this case. Watching what's left in Troy's wake is the key to understanding all that August Wilson was trying to say with this play (movie) same as it was the key to understanding Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis"

Understanding both Wilson and Kafka means you get to understand just how much we impact one another for good and for ill --even when it looks like we are doing our absolute best in our own eyes.

Thinking about how his younger son may go forth to repeat his father's lessons on being a father and husband should give you pause after you finish watching the movie too.

I can't say enough good thing about FENCES. This August Wilson play made movie was awesome. Denzel Washington directed it himself and he starred in it too.  If this is any indication of what he can do behind a camera he need not ever act again.

The material is perfectly complicated, obviously. And the casting was right on the nose. Mykelti Williamson's performance as Troy's brother almost has to earn him an Oscar.  All of the actors were excellent, but I expected Denzel and Viola to be excellent. Mykelti kinda broke my heart a little every time he was on screen.

My favorite August Wilson play prior to seeing this movie was "The Piano Lesson" -- which was made into a decent movie too. And I've seen a few August Wilson plays on stage. But I'm not sure I was old enough to deeply understand them before. If I did see this one too maybe it seems unfamiliar because of the way Denzel Washington focused my attention through his directing.

Do yourself a favor. Go see this movie. Go get yourself a slice of day to day Black American History. Then discuss it.  We'll talk about FENCES again. I promise.

WHAT I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO

WE AS ONE
GILBERT YOUNG

On my first day in the neighborhood, all the green afro flags made me think my white neighbors were what my family called “them good white folk.” Before I found out the Magnolia flag was actually Mississippi’s flag of secession, I imagined these particular good white folk as courageous Mississippians wholly prepared to confront the layered traditions of white power and black suffering that were violently stitched into our nation, our state, and today’s prevailing Mississippi flag.

For me, the American flag is no better.

A&E CANCELS KKK DOCUMENTARY OVER PAYMENTS TO DOCUMENTARY PARTICIPANTS

The documentary ‘Escaping the KKK’ (originally titled 'Generation KKK') was intended to serve as a close look at anti-hate extractors focused on helping people leave the Ku Klux Klan—the racist hate group with a long history of violence against African Americans and others. Our goal with this series has always been to expose and combat racism and hatred in all its forms.
However, A&E learned last night from the third-party producers who made the documentary that cash payments — which we currently understand to be nominal — were made in the field to some participants in order to facilitate access. While we stand behind the intent of the series and the seriousness of the content, these payments are a direct violation of A&E’s policies and practices for a documentary. We had previously provided assurances to the public and to our core partners – including the Anti-Defamation League and Color of Change – that no payment was made to hate group members, and we believed that to be the case at the time. We have now decided not to move forward with airing this project.

HOW DEMOCRATIC SENATORS MIGHT PUT MERRICK ON THE SUPREME COURT COME JAN 3RD

[On January 3rd]when Biden looks out over the Senate floor—in what will likely be one of his last official acts—he’ll see 66 currently sworn and serving senators, 34 of whom will be Democrats, two who are independents, and 30 who are Republicans. At that moment you might wonder, then, just who constitutes the “majority,” and therefore who the Majority Leader actually is. In fact, as the numbers tell us, Democrats will make up the majority of the Senate, and their leader might arguably be entitled to preferential recognition. This situation has surely occurred before. It’s just never mattered. And so in all likelihood, absent some other plan, we would expect Biden to afford that privilege to Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the current Majority Leader, who’s expected to continue in that role in the new Congress.

Suppose, though, that there is another plan. Suppose Biden instead chooses to recognize the sitting Democrats as the majority, that being the then-current truth of the matter? And suppose, therefore, he chose to recognize the Democratic floor leader first?

MY PRESIDENT WAS BLACK

Feeling Rebloggy

Whiteness in America is a different symbol—a badge of advantage.
In a country of professed meritocratic competition, this badge has long ensured an unerring privilege, represented in a 220-year monopoly on the highest office in the land. For some not-insubstantial sector of the country, the elevation of Barack Obama communicated that the power of the badge had diminished. For eight long years, the badge-holders watched him.

They saw footage of the president throwing bounce passes and shooting jumpers. They saw him enter a locker room, give a businesslike handshake to a white staffer, and then greet Kevin Durant with something more soulful. They saw his wife dancing with Jimmy Fallon and posing, resplendent, on the covers of magazines that had, only a decade earlier, been almost exclusively, if unofficially, reserved for ladies imbued with the great power of the badge.

Atlantic

Listen to the article below or read it. Ta-Nehisi Coates, who is often magic, marks the end with amazing grace. The imagery Coates creates of celebration and seriousness is blended well.  We are at the end of the Obama Era. And it was eight whole years long. Can you believe it?

KENTUCKY FRIED CHRISTMAS EVERY YEAR IF YOU LIVE HERE

Feeling Rebloggy
The first KFC Japan opened in Nagoya in 1970 and quickly gained popularity. (There are now over 15,000 KFC outlets in 105 countries and territories around the world.) That same year, at the World Exposition in Osaka, KFC and other American fast food chains like McDonald’s were met with great market testing results and helped jump start the westernized “fast food” movement in Japan. After the big commercial push in ’74, the catchphrase “Christmas=Kentucky” paired with plenty of commercials on TV caught on.

The “Americaness” and simplicity of the message rather than any religious associations with the holiday is what makes it appealing. The Financial Times reports:

“Japan is well known for taking foreign products and ideas and adapting them to suit domestic taste, and Christmas is no exception. A highly commercialised and non-religious affair, lots of money is spent annually on decorations, dinners and gifts. KFC is arguably the biggest contributor, thanks in part to its advertising campaign.
‘One of the reasons the campaign lasted so long is that the message is always the same: at Christmas you eat chicken,’ said Yasuyuki Katagi, executive director at Ogilvy and Mather Japan, the advertising agency.”
These days, KFC records its highest sales volume each year on Christmas eve.

CHANGING THE DEFINITION OF "WORKING CLASS" FOR DUMMIES

1. OLD DEFINITION

2. ELECTION DAY
****************************************************

11/08/2016

THE WHITE PEOPLE VOTE

*****************************
**************************************

3.  NEW DEFINITION

4. USING THE NEW DEFINITION
TO OBSCURE WHITE RACISM

Left leaning politicians like Bernie Sanders immediately start saying "identity politics" is bad-- clearly aiming at "colorblind politics" and expressed great empathy about the "pain" that the white working class is feeling that made them vote for the Orange Dragon

... a pain, people-of-color working class must not be feeling any financial pain at all since we're so privileged. (<---extreme sarcasm)

5. CONCLUSION

Let me say it again, Donald Trump has changed the wind. We no longer have access to weathervane politicians that will be quasi-safe or just less dangerous. Trump has a patriarchal white supremacy wind blowing pretty firmly for now. Unless he stumbles badly and soon,  if "revolutionary" white politicians are leaning into the white supremacist voters then white weathervane politicians don't exist anymore.

The "moderate right" republikkklans and the white democrats have have renamed all white folk except the 1% as the "white working class" so they can start appeasing them.

Pleasing the patriarchal white supremacists and the patriarchal white supremacist enablers (if you must differentiate. I don't anymore) is the white left's first order of business -- even some mainstream news outlets are catching onto that.
America needs a people of color led political group.

The majority of white voters voted for the Trump.

The vast majority of the rest of white people cannot identify patriarchal white supremacy in another white person unless the white person in question actually says the n*gger or sp*c or "I hate Muslims" or "I hate women" etc. The vast majority of liberal white people have been proving this to people of color over and over again since before The Civil Rights Movement

Get a picture in your head where a bunch of black and brown superheroes swoop in to save the entire United States. Then use that dream to create reality. Find somebody with brain enough and guts enough to start a political party.  And once people of color are politically in charge of the U.S., maybe the white folks who are a credit to their race (ha-ha) will be allowed to lead again.

TRUMP IS ON TARGET TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR IMPEACHMENT ON HIS FIRST DAY IN OFFICE

BY JENNIFER RUBIN,
CONSERVATIVE WRITER OF THE RIGHT TURN BLOG
FOR THE WASHINGTON POST

"We have had smart presidents and dim ones, effective ones and incompetents, successful ones and unaccomplished ones. Until now, we have never had one for whom it was legitimate to question at the onset of his presidency whether he could fulfill his oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

As things stand now, President-elect Donald Trump has suggested he will not divest himself of a myriad of businesses around the globe that pose serious conflicts of interest, nor will he liquidate even foreign holdings, the proceeds of which would put him in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution.
In an academically sound and federal court brief quality paper, Norman Eisen, Richard Painter and Laurence Tribe conclude:
Careful review of the Emoluments Clause shows that the Clause unquestionably applies to the President of the United States; that it covers an exceptionally broad and diverse range of remunerative relationships (including fair market value transactions that confer profit on a federal officeholder); and that it reaches payments and emoluments from foreign states (including state-owned and state-controlled corporations)."

HOW TO TREAT YOUR DRAGON VERSUS YOUR WEATHER VANE

Very Smart Brothas Headline
I WILL NEVER UNDERESTIMATE WHITE PEOPLE’S NEED TO PRESERVE WHITENESS AGAIN

A REPOST
It's a sign of intelligence to change your mind. It's a bigger sign of intelligence to admit you messed up. The fact that the author of this article admits he under-estimated white folks commitment to preserving the power of whiteness is commendable -- but kind of surprising from where I sit.

A lot of black and brown folk say that they knew this already. But,   unlike this brave writer, they refuse to admit that they did not see the majority of white folks as a formidable political enemy.

More than that a lot of black and brown folk refuse to admit they failed to connect the dots and therefore failed show up for political battle at the polls.

I don't usually like using war metaphors. It feels too violent and trivializing of the waste of life that is war. But I don't want to be too similar to President Obama in that I sometimes show up to a gun fight with a dull pen knife (as a friend described President Obama a few weeks back.)

But we are in a war right now.

Trump has appointed people that are openly xenophobic and spewers or hate speech.

For people of color (POCs) the 2016 election was never about loving Hillary. It was about stopping Trump.  Black women that showed up showed solidarity, tried to build a wall between Trump black and brown communities.

But a lot of POCs didn't even show up. They didn't even vote.

Now that I've read the VSB article captioned up top, I now realize that a lot of black and brown people didn't know how much danger they were in from the majority of white people in this particular election.

In order to set voting in certain elections as a priority one has to know the difference between a weather vane politician and a dragon politician -- especially when the Dragon has a new sponsor like "alt-Right."

The weather vanes (democratic or republican) follow opinion polls and move with the wind.

Usually they only have the potential to move POCS backward or forward by about 10% As POC progress comes in minuscule movements over long periods of time, we tend to vote for our white democratic weather vanes because those miniscule movements forward lead to the occasional leap forward.

Dragons, however, are different. Dragons don't blow with the wind.

Dragons create wind based on fear of the-other. They breathe fire and inspire people to move. When you see a white dragon with a clear ability to lead on the other side, that's when you start voting self-preservation. That's when you make sure everybody shows up for political battle.

More important than being able to tell the dragon from the weather vane is having the knowledge that the majority of white people, especially poor white people, will vote against their own financial well-being just so they can feel like they have the higher status. And in this country you can get higher status just by being white

Junior high school drop outs that are white know and love this feeling of superiority. Sometimes they join the KKK to protect this feeling. Sometimes they don't.

Damon Young of VerySmarthBrothas said,
In this election, White people did not vote against their self-interests. They may have voted against self-interest — a few actually — but not their most important one: The preservation of White supremacy.
Retaining the value of a Whiteness they believed to be increasingly devalued superseded everything else. Including their own livelihoods; their own physical and financial well-beings; their own Christianity; their own agency; their own money; their own educations; their own futures; their own children’s futures, their own country’s legacy; their own country’s status with the rest of the world; their own environment; their own food, air, and water; their own rights; and their own lives.
And please note that I am not including any qualifiers. For working class Whites. Or Whites from rust-belt cities. Or White men. Or White people who didn’t graduate from college. Or rural Whites. Or Midwestern Whites. Or Southern whites. This is on ALL White people. Who are complicit even if they didn’t vote for Trump. Because they obviously haven’t done enough to repudiate the mindsets existing in their families and amongst their friends; possessed by their co-workers and neighbors; shared during private holiday gatherings and public city townhalls. Who have shown us that nothing existing on Earth or Heaven or Hell matters more to them than being White and whichever privileges — real or fabricated; concrete or spiritual — existing as White in America provides.
~VSB

The paragraph above, highlighted in red, is shockingly naive.

The majority of white men have always voted for white supremacy above all else. Always. And non-feminist white women (the majority of white women) follow them more often than not.

Again, the white poor have been voting to slit their own throats for decades and decades as they look on in worshipful hopefulness at the white rich (who hate them) FOREVER.
This is not a change. This hasn't changed since slavery.

"Poor white trash" and "Trailer Trash" and "Wife beater" t-shirts are all names I heard from white people about other white people who don't have much, money or education. Yet, poor white people almost worship those that either hate them or try to erase them, like to pretend the white poor and needy don't exist.

The thing that was different about this election was proximity of the white demographic to no longer being the numerical majority. After 8 years of white-washed white rhetoric on post-racial America the white-lash I've been dreading finally arrived with Election 2016.
Shrinking White Demographic
White people should no longer be the majority by 2050 (some say 2040)

This bone deep fear or losing power, plus Donald Trump's ability water, nurture, and energize white supremacy in a huge variety of white groups by using a mixture of dog whistle and overt white racism made a lot of white folks decide to vote their white supremacy.

Again, add the fact that white people to Trump's pied piper routine have been looking at a black president for 8 years and you get a super energized white supremacy.

So white folks being white didn't surprise me.The things that surprised me were that:

1) a full two-thirds of white people did NOT vote for Trump. (It was less)

2) the black males vote for Trump at 13% -- and that this was the "good" news for male POCs

3) the latino vote (mostly mexicans) was as bad as it was. I almost fell on the floor when I saw estimates that Latino men (other than Cubans) voted for Trump at a rate of 33%
I thought we (people of color) all knew that we were going to have to jump white supremacy and go to the polls.

And I really did not think educated black people could mistake a weather vane (Hillary) for a white supremacy dragon (Mean Tangerine), and actually think that both were equally threatening to us.

Again, black women voters rose up to push this back because they did recognized the threat. They did not rise up for love of Hillary. I haven't spoken to a black woman yet who gives a damn about Hillary yet. What black women voters cared about was stopping Trump.

At least this brother at VSB admits he messed up. But I wonder if he knows where he messed up.

I'm not sure but I'm getting the distinct impression that black and brown folks younger than 30 only know the surface of black and brown history if they know much at all.

White folk jumping up to defend white supremacy at the polls has been consistent for decades. Furthermore, the rogue waves of white supremacy have hit us before, and I'm not talking about during the Civil Rights Movement.

We've seen a white supremacy dragon with an ability to lead before. His name was Ronald Wilson Reagan. Mr. 666 only used a dog whistle to stir up white fears and label black and brown folk degenerates.

And he did it at a time when there was virtually nothing for white people to worry about from a white superiority perspective; they had all the power and were in no danger of losing it any time soon. But Reagan scapegoated black and brown people for what was wrong with the economy-- just like the KKK has done so many times in our country's history. And Ronnie Ray Gun* made white people feel good about themselves as he was doing it. (*- Nickname based on his foreign policy)

This time it's Donald instead of Ronald. And Donald is using a bull horn when there's something real for white folks to be worried about, such as:

1) a world where they won't be the only ones who can fail to graduate high school and still make a solid middle class living
2) a world where they are out-numbered and can be out-voted routinely.
3) a world where you can no longer feel superior just by being born white even if you don't have a pot to piss in -- just like in the days of slavery. The white poor have always been willing to slit their own throats to feel superior to black and brown.
That's why Mean Tangerine didn't need half the brain wattage of  a not that bright Reagan in order to be successful. The white supremacy fire was already burning bright before MT came along to pour gasoline on it.

The only thing Ronald and Donald had to be smart enough to do is read white people.

And, I really thought black and brown children were taught this at the dinner table as they were growing up. I thought black and brown children understood that a huge chunk of white people hide white supremacy from themselves first and others next-- in order to justify reserving or justifying the taking of money, jobs, land or to justify the preservation of white status (a form of power).

Clearly black and brown oral histories are not being passed along at the dinner table. But it needs to start happening again.  We cannot be out-voted again. We can still lose to the majority of white voters. But we don't have to lie down. All of us can show up for political battle and vote.

Black people, women in particular, can try to whittle down that 13% of Black men that voted for Trump

Latinas and Asian women have a bigger job with their men, nearly three times as big a job stopping their men from voting for a racist, sexist, homophobic, islamophobe.

But the most important thing is to get those that didn't vote to see the importance of showing up for battle.
We can go down fighting in 2020, 2022, 2024, 2026, and 2028 (counting midterm elections too)  Eventually the tide will turn our way.

I don't know how much 2050 will look like South Africa (minority whites ruling the majority black and brown). But we have to try to pull together. Maybe part of that pulling together is creating a new black and brown led party.

The only thing we cannot do is lie down and not have some sort of plan.  We need to have a plan and move collectively because
open white supremacy mows us down much more quickly than closet white supremacy. And Mean Tangerine has changed the wind.

Open white supremacy is on the table as a political bargaining chip now. Republicans, alt-Right within republican ranks, and democrats are likely to try and access that chip, the white race card, in coming elections.

In other words, we're probably not going to have the option to vote for a weather vane and hope for stagnation instead of sliding backwards.

We have to read our history. Speak to people who have oral history. Then we have to get our minds right. We do not want to be doomed to repeat our history -- not ours! And repeating our history is exactly what will happen if we let Trump and his likely smarter successor Make America White Again.

DYLANN ROOF FOUND GUILTY OF ALL 33 FEDERAL HATE CRIMES

Dylann Storm Roof, a ninth-grade dropout who learned to hate black people on the Internet, was convicted Thursday of 33 counts of federal hate crimes for slaughtering nine black parishioners at a church Bible study meeting here last year.
A federal jury took less than two hours to reach its decision, following a seven-day trial in which Roof, 22, a self-described white supremacist, chose to remain silent and motionless amid a barrage of testimony and evidence so thorough and devastating that his mother, watching from the third row, suffered a heart attack on the first day.

“He executed them because he believes they are nothing but animals,” prosecutor Nathan Williams said in his closing argument, addressing a somber jury that had seen crime-scene photos of all the dead, including Susie Jackson, 87, the oldest victim, into whom Roof had emptied an entire 11-round magazine from his Glock .45-caliber pistol.
