Tiffany Haddish Set It Off in GIRLS TRIP The Black Girl Magic Movie Breaks Records

GIRLS TRIP earned the biggest-opening weekend for a comedy in 2017.

"Keep in mind, it opened opposite Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, which unsurprisingly held the top spot in its opening weekend, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Girls Trip did something special. For everyone who thought that a comedy starring four black women couldn't win big at the box office, Girls Trip shut those notions the hell up, hopefully signaling a much-needed shift in Hollywood to properly diversify their output. Or, at the very least, learn to take some risks."

In case you didn't know, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah were in another hit film together in the 1996 called SET IT OFF. And while they, along with Regina Hall, have tons of acting experience and star power, it was Tiffany Haddish that stole quite a few scenes.

Tiffany Haddish
The four of them fit well together and the movie went to new places for a black female comedy But it was Haddish that had me howling. And, surprisingly enough, I was not the loudest person in theater.

Clearly, I am not alone in thinking this movie great. It brought in more than 30 million dollars during its opening weekend while the very white DUNKIRK, which was much more widely distributed and anticipated, made 50 million.

I'm actually wondering if it's possible that GIRLS TRIP made more per theater than Nolan's movie?  And if it did, that must mean Malcom D Lee (THE BEST MAN) is starting to write GIRLS TRIP, THE SEQUEL already. And I hope its a road trip because that would be awesome.

GIRLS TRIP is not for the timid: Cussing, drugs, n-word, sex, nudity, ratchedness....It's all in GIRLS TRIP.  Go see it!
