THE LINK BETWEEN WHITE & "NOT-WHITE" MASS MURDERERS AND VERBAL VIOLENCE FROM THE TOP

Joy Reid on Twitter:

Enough with the “thoughts and prayers already.” The Bible teaches us that faith without works is dead. Do something or say nothing.

I doubt these shootings really have a thing to do with being White or Muslim, to tell you the truth.

The motive behind these shootings
rational or not,
have to with
men being men
in America.

Men in America
who are dealing with
a frustrated toxic masculinity,
are the ones popping off.
To be more specific,
when men in this country
feel they can't compete
on this level or that level,
they lash out.

And that's because masculinity has been made all about competition here. The men who feel like they are doing okay --have job, wife, car, good credit, buy-a-house someday -- they seem okay

...until something makes them feel like they're losing the American dream. Then a small percentage of them pop off.

I'm thinking patriarchy must be executed differently in other countries because the men here are starting to explode in violence routinely. I can't even keep track anymore. A mass shooting has been defined by the press(?) as a shooting where 4 or more people have been killed. I decided to stop paying attention until there are at least 10 or Trump makes a racist comment. And he rarely disappoints.

Access to guns is only  a part of it, a large part of it, but only part of it.  Men use trucks, knives, whatever destructive thing they can get their hands on.

Even the sexual harassment and sexual assault scandals going on in Hollywood right now are about toxic masculinity.

When a man makes but so much money, he feels he has won at life, he feels he has won the competition. And that means he can take advantage of "life's losers" --- women and children.
And while I knew that gay men are not immune to toxic masculinity, we've just seen it.
Actor Kevin Spacey appears to be guilty of statutory rape. They are saying his career is over. Agents, movies, television shows have all started dropping him like a hot rock. But, on a side note, nobody seems to be calling his crime "statutory rape" (in addition to pedophilia*) because his victims were young boys. So I guess we'll see if his career is over...because he did NOT assault the group that counts in this country (heterosexual adult white men)

Toxic Masculinity and Gun Culture are but two of the problems behind these mass shootings. I think white supremacy has a hand in this too...indirectly.

While the white ethnoracism pouring down on all of from the top is directed toward black and brown people and those perceived as not-white, no matter how pale their skin is (Mexicans and Muslims), what is really pouring over us all is...
VERBAL VIOLENCE

SCREEN SHOT BOSTON GLOBE ARTICLE

Trump and Kelly may deny what they utter feeds and waters white supremacy and actually think what they are saying is harmless to white people. But they are wrong.

Last weeks mass murder
Sayfullo Saipov will be called "a terrorist"

Last month's mass murder (shooter)
Stephen Paddock** will be called "mentally ill" 100x
before he's ever called "terrorist"

When you tell, hint, and imply
to white people over and over again
that they, as white people,
are being taken advantage of
because they are white,
some of the people
are going to explode.

Those with the potential to explode as a result of the verbal violence trickling down from the top are those being told they are victims (white people) and those being told they are the victim-izers (not-white people) And one cannot control the direction of the explosion caused by verbal violence.

I think this shooting in Texas is the latest evidence of this.

The best thing we can do for this country right now is get Trump and his violent, idiotic mouth out of office and his words off twitter; remove assault rifles and things that look like assault rifles from everybody's hands except the police and military; then get men to talk to one another about how to change what it takes for them to feel secure in their own masculinity because competition  --the cornerstone of patriarchy-- ain't where it's at.

** Paddock may have been losing in the competition in the toxic masculinity wars. As he'd just lost money, he may felt his masculinity was threatened too.
