TRUMP - KIM SUMMIT COULDN'T HAVE GONE BETTER...FOR KIM JONG UN AND MAYBE MOON JAE-IN TOO

Trump's been saying North Korea is "no longer a nuclear threat"  Seems like this might be a bit premature --which reminds me of another president who liked to pat himself on the back

... a year or so shy
of a decade too early

Remember this?

George Bush claiming victory in Iraq in 2003
instead claiming little-or-no victory for anybody in 2011

Trump went home with a promise that Kim will allow the U.S. to have the dead bodies of American soldiers from a war decades past and a promise that the Korean peninsula will denuclearize -- a promise North Korea has made a good half dozen times since 1985.  And it hasn't happened yet.

But Kim, the smarter of the two truthless-but-never-toothless leaders, went home with everything but the kitchen sink.

  • Kim was recognized as a world leader on the world stage
  • Kim got Trump to promise no more military exercises with South Korea (huge)
  • Kim got to walk away with promising one detail or even suggesting a timeline
  • And while we haven't heard that the sanctions have been lifted yet, Kim started braying about how they're almost gone as soon as it was over.
Some of our allies in the area, Japan for one, isn't too happy about the concessions given in exchange for....almost nothing.

South Korea is probably happy though, despite Agent Evil Orange's having forgotten to consult them about stopping the joint military exercises.

Moon Jae-in has been masterful playing the-enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend version of footsy with Kim Jong Un since the Olympics. That's how he got Kim to meet Trump in the first place.

And he's been stroking Orange Chump all along too.

As a result of all this phony good will, there may really be one Korea someday soonish.  And I'm thinking it is Moon who has taken a giant step toward ending the last of the cold war. And he did it by playing one egotistical liar against another.
