AME Church Shooting: President Obama Misses The Mark

I've been thinking about rethinking my feelings on our 2nd Amendment rights for a while now.  I'm simply tired of imagining black people running from white people with guns. I am so tired.

Born and raised in the church, I truly never thought I'd imagine something like one of the church mothers or fathers in Emanuel AME Church pulling a glock off her hip, mowing Dylann Foot down long before his protectors got that bulletproof vest on him.

And I felt this way despite the fact that I was also raised in a secular time and place where even toy guns were frowned on. To this day, I still cannot imagine wanting to own a gun and keep in my house, much less get a permit to keep it on my hip. 

But this feeling that maybe I should reconsider peaked when President Obama started talking about gun control rather than the violence of white supremacy the day after the AME Church Shooting. And when the President did finally talk about racism, it was so abstract he could have been talking any country in the world - but not any country in the world where one side is dominating and annihilating the other.

The president to decided to save his detailed comments for gun control. Gun control?  Really? When it's probably time to face facts about gun control.

The NRA won. 

This country knows that more than two dozen people were shot dead at Sandy Hook, most of them white children --tiny children-- by yet another white boy that should never have had access to a gun, who got that gun from a mother who was reportedly stockpiling weapons in preparation for a spiritual end of the world shoot out (Where is THAT in Revelations? Has that prediction that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be one of the four horsemen actually been confirmed by biblical scholars?)

Nearly two dozen dead children, predominantly white, at the hands of someone that most definitely never should have had a gun. And despite that Christmas time massacre what's changed?

Not jack.

The NRA won.

This IS gun culture.

We are gun culture.

The next two dozen deaths of white children might make a dent in the NRA's latest big win. Maybe. So what do you think the chances are that national mourning over the deaths of nine black people will breaking the NRA's hold?

Pssssh. Negro please!

So why go there at all?

When black people are killed by a white supremacist, you start and end your speech talking about white supremacy, using the words "white supremacy," and you mention white supremacy's favorite symbol.

And white supremacy's favorite symbol is that mother #$%#$@# flag that southern white children have been raised under for the last 150 years.

If social media, trailed by main stream media, has already hopped on the fact that the confederate flag flies atop the statehouse in South Carolina is problematic, why not jump on the bandwagon step out (in your second term) and try to take a verbal shot at stopping that symbol from being a source of pride for the next generation of white racists?

Anti-racism black, brown, and white people are NOT confused about what that flag means. Card carrying mostly white pro-racists are not confused about what that flag means either. How is it that so many of the I'm-not-a-racist white south IS claiming to be confused about what that flag means?
Are Germans and Jewish people in Germany confused about what the swastika means? No. Has that symbol had other meanings in the past?  Yes. Are Germans and Jewish people in Germany confused about what the swastika means? NO! Know why? When the terrorist regime lost, their flag (and symbolically their ideals) were burned --never to be seen again without people spitting on it.

DOES IT ALWAYS TAKE A VILLAGE PROTECT A FAMOUS SERIAL RAPIST?

Drugging, sexually assaulting, and raping two dozen women before a man is finally arrested for rape has to take a village's worth people all working toward the same end. And I think the particular ends that justified the particular means was: Keep Darren Sharper making money no matter what.

If Darren Sharper was white, you might be able to say he had enough money to protect himself all by himself. But Sharper is black. Rape fits quickly and easily into the black male stereotype. Therefore, in my mind, somebody had to have been helping him.
How else do you rape that many women, police appearing to ignore rape accusation after rape accusation and going so far as to throw away rape kits?

That would take more money than one black man could earn at his relatively young age - even a pro foot ball player. Even someone older, like Bill Cosby, would need assistance.

So now we have to think about who would have the motive to assist him along such a foul path. And keep this in mind as you ponder: If people can ignore that pedophile Sandusky in order to win penants --or whatever it is  you get when you win at college football-- people will ignore absolutely anything for the millions of dollars at stake in pro football.

Think about the path Darren Sharper's money was taking. It wasn't just flowing into to him and his family. That moola was flowing upward and outward toward owners, advertisers, TV execs, etc. There were a lots-a-folk interested in him staying on track.

 Let us also keep in mind that law enforcement only decided to "catch" him and stop him  after he was no longer on a highly rated, popular, prime-time, family oriented, TV show, making the big bucks for television execs. He was only doing standup comedy again when they.

... um...wait...correction...

I MEAN they decided to "catch" him and stop him only after he stopped playing pro-ball, when he was only a TV Commentator.

And since it seems hard to believe a grown man just starts serial raping as he approaches 40, this might mean the village was working overtime when Sharper was at the height of his career. Again, his going to jail when he was da-man and popular would have represented the loss of a lot of money for people who summer on the yacht in the South of France and such. 

Of course, it could simpler than that. It could be that the first two rape kits were thrown out because cops (of all shades) were born into a society where many people believe that false accusations of rape are as prevalent as genuine accusations of rape when all studies show that this simply isn't true.

Whether you think false rape happens at a rate of 2% or 8%,  deciding that false accusations of rape are just as problematic as rape makes about as much sense as deciding black cops killing unarmed white people is as big a problem as white cops killing unarmed black people

- just because that's the way you think it logically should be

-just nobody can really prove TO YOU that it isn't the way you think it should be, despite all stats to the contrary.

The video below is educational but chilling.  As you watch, think about how many people at the police station, how many people in court houses, how many people at his job, how many newspapers and magazines turned away from multiple accusations of rape so that Darren Sharper could continue

- being a source of money for others,
- continue being a vision of black success
- continue being you or your sister's dream husband. (It's just sick that this man is so good looking. Just sick. And while he's in jail, I hope he....nevermind.)


A culture that can make excuses for not exposing Sandusky is capable of anything. But how can we keeping making excuses about holding these monsters close for as long as we can?

I am so exhausted. Watching my people die for nothing is exhausting. I feel more tired than angry, like I'm accepting something I shouldn't accept. It feels like it's happening against my will. I don't know why I can't really seem to maintain and focus my anger on that inbred white racist, bulletproof vest coddled, terrorist piece of garbage, Dylann Foot.   Then again, maybe I do know why. I don't actually care about him. Not really. He's nothing. He doesn't matter. He's just a symptom and not the disease. The disease lies in the foundational white supremacists. And I know that you know about the ones I mean.

The ones who don't do shoot any bullets. The ones who only shoot their mouths off The ones that let their benign sounding racism flow outward between smiling teeth and watch their matter-of-fact superiority push their unstable ones, the ones sitting in the midst of their foulness, right over the edge. And then when 9 fall dead, there is the gasp of dismay and clutching of pearls at the throat.

You know what else Haley will never be able to fathom? That Dylann Roof  shot these 9 black people for white people just like her.   Even if Roof should somehow get near microphone and use the very same words that Haley herself used to keep that confederate flag flying in 2014, to explain his white supremacist manifesto, Haley still won't recognize that the part of herself that loves that confederate flag as the same white supremacy that motivated Roof 

Tell Haley to take that KKK symbol down Let us let the removal of that abomination be the first victory of many that we claim on behalf of the nine.  It's symbolic but important. The losers truly know they've lost the war when they see the burning of their flag. The Civil War has been over for 150 years. It's time for the losers to acknowledge they lost.

I used to live in a very white college town that made me feel like this. I swear, I would see somebody on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street a full block down. I'd run to the curb and raise my hand, waving frantically as if to say, "HEY, I'm here!!!! I"m here!!! I see you!!! I'm here!!!"

I don't remember a time when the black person didn't look up and smile, just as excited as I was.

That's when you know it's time to either import some black folk on your own or move.

"In what certainly appears like a case of “not necessary,” 27-year-old Shelly Frey was shot and killed by an off-duty deputy after he suspected the Houston mother of two had shoplifted.


Frey was reportedly perusing the Walmart with friends Tiasa Andrews and Yolanda Craig when Louis Campbell, a 26-year veteran of the force, approached the ladies about shoplifting. The trio then ran off into the parking lot where Campbell followed them. The chase escalated to the point that Frey got into her car to speed away and Campbell followed. Shortly after, he fired, striking Frey in the neck.

He claims that he eventually drew his gun because he was “between the car door and the driver’s seat and feared for his safety.”

THE 2015 VERSION OF A PEACEFUL PROTEST

If the white people calling for a peaceful protest want a peaceful protest, then those white people need to get up and get out there in the protest, and in large numbers. You white callers for peace represent nearly 3/4 of the population. So you better be 3/4 of the protest if you want to part your lips about a peaceful one.

That's not to say that the majority black Baltimore Protests were peaceful for days and days until they walked through the white neighborhoods. But more is expected of the white callers for peace in the 21st century. You're going to have to do more than poo-poo some of your tribe attacking  blacks, and other people of color, after the fact.

BALTIMORE  FREDDIE GRAY PROTEST

Up to 05% of white folk being interested in race justice, interested enough to protest isn't a large enough group to keep the police from going ape-sh*t on people not white.

The 20th century photos that we've all seen of buses burning and drinks being poured on heads show us this, clearly.  In the 21st century, things aren't so different. A grown white man in a police uniform will claim that he was "scared" because a five year old threw a pebble, or he "thought he saw a gun," or a couple of teenage boys run up, open handed and arms out, to stop him from pounding on a 14 year old girl. 

If the 2015 protest crowd is going to be peaceful, it's going to have to be at least ...oh say...um....50% white as opposed to .05% white ala the 1960s. It is this that will make predominantly white police departments, across the nation, de-thuggerize their eyesight, which will in turn make them less likely to become violent.


The pictures below are what civil rights protests need to look like a lot more often. And if you can't walk and protest the abuses you see, then write. And if you not a writer, then talk -- tell racist Uncle Joe to shut his pie-hole on the racism at the Christmas dinner table in front of everybody.  Do SOMETHING.

Because this time? The "peaceful" is on you.

Yet in 2010, at the age of 16, it was Browder that was sent to Riker's Island for a crime he didn't commit.

No proof at all. But I'd bet a whole lot of money that Dolezal got a lot more positive feed back as a light-skinned black girl than as a white one while studying at my favorite HBCU, Howard University. Let's call what she may have contracted while there a variant on "Kim K syndrome." Think about it: Kim K's entire body, but especially her butt, was very likely too huge for the white boys. But a pale skinned woman with a black woman's butt is catnip for a lot of black men. We've seen so many fall to Kim K's feet. So there is zero mystery to Kim K's attractiveness.

And there isn't any real mystery about the small but very vocal defense of Dolezal by a small cadre of black men either. The difference between the-K and Dolezal appears to be that Dolezal had brains enough to parlayed her new found love of blackness into a career where she'd continue to be surrounded and praised by a lot of black people, especially black men.

A friend of a friend said this when the Dolezel story first dropped: "Why work your way up the white female social ladder when you can zoom directly into the top of the black female social ladder.

This may be like announcing the wheel is round, but... Colorism is REAL. Black men suffer from colorism too The NAACP response is likely a sign of this not so secret suffering.* Dolezal's climb up the NAACP ladder may be a side effect of all of the above.

Logical as this theory may be, the extent of the lies still leaves her in crazy-ville. *And if somebody has a theory other than colorism (and/or catering to white patrons) to explain how the NAACP can pretend to not understand "cultural appropriation" as problematic, I'd like to hear it.

Re: Rachel Dolezal

You'll never get another cent from me for so long as you pretend that the cultural appropriation of black female identity is a legitimate way for white people to contribute to the struggle against racism. The NAACP and its leadership knows perfectly well that her skin color is not the issue as the NAACP currently has or has recently had openly White NAACP Chapter Presidents in Florida and Nevada.

Furthermore, there's not a doubt in my mind that if a white man had put on a wig and a spray tan and did a real live imitation of the movie "Soul Man" so as to join the NAACP and rise within its ranks, the NAACP's response would have been anything except endorsement.

Again, the negative response to Dolezal is not about skin color. There have always been white people in high ranking positions within the NAACP.  Dolezal is simply the first white person to join the NAACP while in, what is essentially, black face. Remove her from her position. Your response, or lack thereof, on the Dolezal issue so far has been a slap in the face to black women if not all black people.

I sincerely hope you do not let Dolezal's lack of integrity compromise this nearly 100 year old institution.

When I say “Black Lives Matter,” I mean all of us. I mean Black women too, and not just the women who happen to be straight or cisgender. I sense an anti-feminist stance from men, and particularly from the men who proclaim to be “Pro-Black.” When women bring banners with the names of Black women and girls who have been killed by state-sanctioned violence to protests, we are accused of “making this about us.” I’m beginning to believe that those who are against Black feminist politics are only interested in strong women when we are strong for the sake of men...Black feminism is, and has always been, a way of resisting and critiquing power....


One of my former students told me that Rosa Parks was, “Dr. King’s assistant who sat down for him.” Sadly, this is not too far from the history we circulate as adults... not many of us know that she [first] investigated rapes of Black women. It’s logical. Why wouldn’t the same woman who resisted white supremacy also take particular interest in the welfare of her sisters?

When I first read this story, I almost felt like I'd fallen into an alternate universe. Anyway... In the video, ,Dolezal did NOT say my father is mixed race from way back when, but passed as white. She also did NOT say something like 'I decided to acknowledge my African American Roots' She got that *deer caught in the headlights* look then implied she was confused when there was nothing to be confused about.

Looks to me like she straight up lied.

So did Dolezal lie to get her first NAACP job? When, how, and why did she change her hair? I am especially interested in the when and the why of her changing the hair. Isn't hiding the hair texture (or lack thereof) the equivalent of black-face? I don't know if I care about how much good she's been doing. I imagine somebody else, black or white, who hasn't told so fundamental a lie might have done just as good a job. If she deliberately deceived people about something so basic as the social construct of her race, that's a problem. She changed her hair so as to fool the eyes. She said she was African American so she could fool the ears. And wearing blackness as a costume, for any reason, is a problem in my opinion. White people can be NAACP Chapter Presidents. They have been before. In the early 20th century, I think NAACP Presidents were predominantly white. I know white people were predominantly influential in the NAACP, even more so than blacks - and that was a major problem. However in 2013, Jeff Blanck, who is openly white, became NAACP Chapter President in Reno, Nevada. So she could have been openly white AND a NAACP Chapter president. Maybe less likely, but you still don't get to cheat your way into a job by changing your look to fool people. I guess her friends, co-workers, and people she's helped will be the final judge of whether or not she stays in the organization. But I'd hate to see this become a trend because everything in me says, "This is unacceptable."
