Amidst the multiple women of color who have been newly sworn into Congress as 2019 kicks off, veteran congresswoman Maxine Waters will take on a new historically significant role. Congresswoman Waters will now serve as the first woman and the first African American Chair of the House Financial Services Committee.The House Financial Services Committee is responsible for managing the major financial regulators and agencies of the United States. Some of these agencies include the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) [which is run by Trump's Ben Carson], the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) [which is run by Trump Chairwoman Jelena McWilliams], and the Federal Reserve Bank run by Trump chairman Jerome Powell].
Congresswoman Waters has consistently served on the committee since 1995 and was one of its highest ranking members in the previous Congress.
