PRESIDENT OBAMA - CLEMENCY FOR 46/SPEECH TO NAACP ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

Obama Cuts Sentences
 for 46 Drug Offenders

President says ‘their punishments didn’t fit the crime’

The president personally notified the inmates of his decision by letter, telling them that the power to grant pardons and clemency is one of the most profound authorities the president has.

“I am granting your application because you have demonstrated the potential to turn your life around,” the president wrote. “Now it is up to you to make the most of this opportunity…I believe in your ability to prove the doubters wrong.”
This makes the total number of men and women granted clemency by President Obama 89.
