The president was promoting his hardline immigration agenda to an audience of police officers and the relatives of victims of crime in Brentwood, Long Island.
“If you’re a gang member and you’re here illegally, you’re going home,” the senior White House adviser Stephen Miller told reporters traveling to New York on Air Force One with Trump.
In his speech, however, the president spoke dismissively of arresting officers who protect suspects’ heads while putting them in police cars.
“And when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon,” he said, “you just see ’em thrown in, rough.
“I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice.’ Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting the head. You know? The way you put the hand over [the head], like ‘Don’t hit their head’ and they’ve just killed somebody, ‘Don’t hit their head.’
“I said, ‘You can take the hand away,’ OK?”
The president’s remarks drew cheers, laughter and applause.

So why are some of you all shocked about Trump's speech to cops encouraging police nationwide to engage in police brutality with his blessing?
Wasn't it obvious when he took out an ad in NY newspapers in 1989 calling for the execution of the Central Park Five, and he still believes they are guilty even though they were completely cleared years ago?
Did it not register when he gave his sacred blessing for his cult to beat up protesters, often black but not always, at his rallies during the campaign including offering to pay legal fees for his folks to assault others?
How did you not grasp it when he repeatedly called for a return of the unconstitutional and racist "stop and frisk" policy that overwhelmingly targeted black & brown young men and was shown to not work?
Did not a clue reveal itself when Trump uttered "Chicago" as a euphemism for "those n**gers need to be put down" every time he invoked the city's name as a racial dog whistle?
Was it not apparent when he tip toed toward that promise by sending "Federal help" to that very city a few weeks ago?
But how about when he appointed white supremacists Steve Bannon & Steven Miller, heroes to the KKK and neo nazis, to top positions in the White House? Did not a packet of GE light bulbs go off when Jeff KKK Sessions started "reviewing" consent decrees that police departments had come to an agreement with under the Obama administration and issued directives and signals that the DOJ would not prosecute cops for brutality?
After all of that, with the stage now set from the primaries through the general election until now...why are ya'll are NOW surprised Trump has told the cops to do whatever they feel they gotta do?
For close to a year — and more specifically the last six months — it's been plain to see. Many have been calling it the establishment of the New New Jim Crow. Some have been calling it the return of The Black Codes. I've been calling it #NewAparthied. Whatever name it is, it is almost upon us.
And if you don't believe it, keep an eye out for the next slew of police misconduct videos where they are beating a whole new batch of people or shooting black & brown and yes white folk in the back of head like that 16 year old black boy in Arkansas a few days ago uploaded to ye olde internets. Who knows? You might star in one of them.
