After a week in which news of President Donald Trump’s plans to attend the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum set off a firestorm, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant’s office announced late Thursday night thatTrump will not makea public appearance at the event.That’s a change from what Bryant announced Wednesday [yeaaaa!]
On Thursday, multiple planned special guests pulled out of the event, including Congressmen John Lewis (D-GA) and Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who called Trump’s presence an “insult” to the state’s civil rights heroes, and former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus, who described Trump as an “overt racist.”
